Four Serra Capital Companies Approved for Funding Through Invest Illinois Venture Fund

Four Serra Capital Portfolio companies, ANDalyze, Nuvixa, Diagnostic Photonics and Caterva, have received approval for equity investments from the state’s new Invest Illinois Venture Fund.

The fund was set up last year as the venture capital arm of the state’s Advantage Illinois program. The program is designed to make equity investments that match up to 25 percent of a company’s lead investment — to a maximum of $1 million.

Serra Ventures engages with Burns Family Studios on latest film

Serra Ventures has recently engaged with Burns Family Studios to assist them with a targeted fundraising effort for their newest film, Beyond the Mask. In addition, Tim Hoerr, Serra Ventures’ principal, has joined the Advisory Board for this current project.  Beyond the Mask is an independent film currently in productions and is an action-fused historic adventure, set in the turmoil of the mid 1770′s.

Beyond the Mask has garnered $750,000 in investor commitments to date.  A video clip on the project can be viewed here.

Tim Hoerr Presents at FastTrac Tech Venture at UIUC

Tim Hoerr, CEO of Serra Ventures, was the featured presenter at the FastTrac Tech Venture at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign on June 5, 2012.  Tim Hoerr gave the presentation titled “An Entrepreneur’s Top 10″ which showcased his entrepreneurial story that included tips for entrepreneurs as they embark on starting a company.

FastTrac TechVenture is a comprehensive business planning program that addresses the needs of start-up entrepreneurs who are refining their business ideas, writing their business plans and seeking to grow sustainable high-impact companies. The program combines instruction from experienced business professionals, one-on-one business mentoring, peer learning, and ample tools to help entrepreneurs produce all the elements of an effective business.
