History of Serra Ventures

Serra Ventures, LLC was founded in 1998 by Tim Hoerr.  From 2001 to 2008, Tim operated the consultancy on a part-time basis while serving as Chief Executive Officer of iCyt Mission Technology: www.i-cyt.com.  iCyt grew rapidly from a start up of five employees to become the leading independent firm in the cytometry instrumentation marketplace. With over 50 professionals employed, completion of several successful funding rounds and revenue in the multiple-millions, Tim stepped out of the CEO role at iCyt in 2008.  iCyt was subsequently acquired by Sony Corporation in 2009.

In September, 2009, Tim was joined in Serra Ventures by Dennis Beard, a seasoned financial and strategic executive with significant experience in the venture capital space, and Alyssa Hoerr, a recent masters graduate with a degree in Industrial Organizational Psychology.  On each engagement, the Serra Ventures team works together to ensure that the highest quality work product is offered and a practical, real-world solution is delivered.

Serra Ventures is named after the Franciscan friar, Junípero Serra, who founded a chain of missions in Alta California during the 1700s in such modern day cities as San Diego, Santa Barbara and Carmel.  His incredible legacy of compassion, vision and service to humanity serves as our organizational inspiration.
